3 Of The Greatest Hip-Hop Songs of 2013

2013 has been an awesome year for hip-hop. Not only did Jay Z drop Magna Carta Holy Grail, we saw Drake pick up a Grammy for Best Rap Album, Kanye releasing the ground-breaking Yeezus and of course the long-awaited return of Eminem.
This list was a tough one to create and no doubt it will cause some controversy, but here are our top three hip-hop songs of 2013.

A$AP Rocky – Wild for the Night
Teaming up with Skrillex and Birdy Nam Nam, the commercial performance of A$AP Rocky’s Wild for the Night was somewhat disappointing. The song only peaked at number 80 on the Billboard Hot 100, but the infectious dub-step beat and sick flow from A$AP secures this track a place on the list.
Drake – Started from the Bottom
The first single to be released from Drake’s Nothing was the Same album was arguably one of his best. Started from the Bottom documents his journey to becoming a Grammy award-winning rapper – the only issue is his rather questionable dancing in the video.
Kanye West – I am a God
Kanye’s famed ego reigned supreme in I am a God, one of the unreleased tracks from Yeezus. The song makes the list because it is unique, and the lyric ‘Hurry up with my damn croissants’ is one of the freshest we’ve seen all year.
These songs are sure to get any party started, so they should definitely occupy a spot on your playlist. To really get your party started, why not invest in some specialist DJ kit? Take a look at Gear4DJs; they have everything from DJ lights to speakers that are sure to make your house party memorable.
Whether you agree or disagree, you’ll all have your opinions on this selection so feel free to leave a reply below.

Danny Brown Didn’t Get His Teeth Fixed

2013 Coachella Valley Music And Arts Festival - Day 2

By Maurice Bobb

To the media outlets reporting that Danny Brown fixed his signature chipped tooth smile, the jokes on you. According to reports, the Old MC recently got dental reconstruction surgery courtesy of KFC, who was indirectly associated with the incident that led to the loss of his two front teeth, but the Detroit rhyme slayer took to Twitter Monday (October 21) morning to deny the reports.

“I ain’t got my damn teeth fixed … Y’all resharded,” Danny tweeted this morning.

As the story goes, the “Gremlins” MC damaged his incisors as a kid when he was struck by a vehicle in a KFC parking lot, allegedly prompting the fried chicken chain to foot the $ 2,200 bill for a new grill.

“I was a little kid,” Danny told Detroit Metro Times back in 2011. “I was riding my homeboy’s bike, back when I was staying off Gratiot. And this IROC-Z pulled out of a KFC parking lot and I didn’t see it. I got hit by the car head-on. That’s how I lost my teeth the first time. But I got ‘em fixed! Parents paid for it and everything, I was good. Dawg, like a month later, I’m playing in the house, I fell and chipped a tooth on the table leg. I’m like, ‘Damn!’ Didn’t get it fixed, then was playing basketball a couple of years later, and a nigga came down with an elbow and chipped the other tooth. So I had two, big ass chipped teeth. The shit started deteriorating, and one day I was eating a big piece of chicken, and the shits just came out.”

(Brown on his Old album)

Spankin’ new porcelain veneers or not, Brown’s Old album landed at No. 17 on the Billboard 200, moving 15,000 units during its first week, so it’s likely that the Don King-haired emcee will still be able to get more onstage sexual gratification in the future.

Ma$e Wants Drake, Diddy, Jay Z On New Album

(Ma$ e and Drake on potentially working with each other)

By Sowmya Krishnamurthy

Ma$ e back? The former Bad Boy rapper seems to back at work on a new album titled Now We Even and he was excited to share the info.

This weekend Ma$ e revealed his dream collabos for the project on Instagram, which included former rhyming partners Diddy and Dipset as well as less expected artists like Seal and Lauryn Hill. “This is what my ideal album would look like:@MsLaurynHill @2Chainz (@S_C_ or @Drake) @Seal@CeeLoGreen @iamdiddy @meekmill (#1 @Beyonce or#2 destiny child) @ArianaGrande & dipset@myfabolouslife y€$ #NOWWEEVEN is the album title… Lets make it happen!!!”

Ma$ e made his big return to music at Drake’s OVO Fest this year. After the performance, Drake told MTV News that he would gladly work with the 90s rapper if he was interested. “Funny enough, me and Ma$ e have just been talking about what the future holds, about what he wants to do,” Drake said. “And anything is possible man. I told Ma$ e, ‘You’re Ma$ e, at the end of the day so I don’t think you should end up on anybody else’s label.”

All signs on Ma$ e’s Instagram appear to point at a rap comeback. Ma$ e screenshot a Vibe article recently about how he impacts rap and Direct Messaged Jim Jones about a track he wants to jump on. “DM me I’m getting on The Ghost of RP…#NOWWEEVEN” said Mase.
